In our Montel by Select review, we analyze all the details of the capsules produced by both Montel Williams and Cura Cannabis, the parent company of Select CBD. Aside from name recognition, these capsules separate themselves from the rest of the CBD capsule market on their high CBD concentration alone, along with an incredible price per mg. The efficacy is on point, providing noticeable benefits for relaxation, energy levels, and sleep. In short, Montel by Select is worth it.
Here is our favorite Montel by Select product:
Note: As of late August 2019, Select CBD has undergone a name change to become Social CBD. In an email sent to customers, Select CBD said, “Don’t worry, every reason you’ve come to trust and love our products will stay the same.”
According to the new website, the brand wanted to distance themselves from the cannabis scene, because “hemp and cannabis play very different roles in our lives, and we felt it was in everyone’s best interest that we stayed true to our mission that’s singularly focused on delivering pure, powerful, and most of all, trusted hemp products to people who care about their health.”

Montel by Select Review
For our Montel by Select review, we reviewed both products Select CBD offers:
- Alert (50 mg/capsule, 30 ct)
- Relax (50 mg/capsule, 30 ct)
Each product contains CBD isolate and curated terpenes for specific benefits.
These capsules are from Montel William’s Lenitiv line and are produced by Select CBD.
We review CBD capsules based on the quality of the hemp they come from, cannabinoid concentration, value, packaging, ingredients, flavor and scent, and effectiveness.
Let’s start with Select CBD’s hemp quality.

Select CBD Hemp Quality
Select CBD uses hemp grown on Oregon farms that are licensed and regulated by the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
The hemp makes its way to Select CBD through a completely legal supply chain with a certificate of authenticity along the way.
After acquiring the hemp, Select CBD uses ethanol extraction—a common and clean method—to extract the oil from the plant material.
The oil is then distilled and purified until it becomes CBD isolate.
Every batch of oil is then tested for cannabinoid potency, pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbes.
Select CBD uses third-party laboratories to conduct this testing, such as Pixis Labs and Lightscale Labs, both of which are accredited by the Oregon Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ORELAP).
The company claims the batches meet stringent testing standards that surpass the ones for organic fruit.
These third-party results are available directly on Select CBD’s website here.
Cannabinoid potency results are displayed on the products themselves.
All products are manufactured, packaged, and shipped from a facility also licensed by the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
Concentration
Both the Alert and Relax capsules contain 50 mg of CBD isolate per capsule—a high and rare concentration—with 30 capsules per bottle.
Most brands put 20 to 30 mg of CBD in a capsule.
Since the Montel by Select capsules contain CBD isolate, which typically requires higher concentrations of CBD to be as effective as full-spectrum products, 50 mg is likely necessary for the product to be as effective as it is.
At 30 capsules in each product, Montel by Select capsules have 1,500 mg of CBD per bottle, which is more than the average CBD tincture.
The capsules test at 0.0% THC.
Value
Alert and Relax are priced the same at $80 per bottle, which comes out to an unbelievable $0.05/mg.
This is one of the lowest price per mg our team has seen on the market for CBD capsules, and customers will likely not find a better deal from a reputable brand in this respect.
However, we cannot overlook the asking price of $80 for 30 capsules.
If you were to buy just one of these bottles every month for a year, that would cost nearly $1,000 annually.
While the Montel by Select products are no doubt expensive, we believe you will be hard pressed to find capsules that offer a superior experience.
Furthermore, capsules from other brands likely won’t have the respect and reputation of a name like Montel Williams and a company like Select CBD.
Our team believes the Montel by Select capsules are worth the cost.
Packaging
The Montel by Select capsules come in color-coded packaging: red for Alert and green for Relax.
Unlike some other products from Select CBD, the packaging does not contain batch results, but it does include a batch number that customers can use to view the third-party results for their products’ batch.
Click here to input a batch number for any Select CBD product.
Within the boxes are the bottles, whose labels are the same as the box.
The bottles have push-and-twist, child-proof lids, and the capsules themselves are clear and pure-looking.
Note: On the Montel by Select product pages, Select CBD says customers may get products that look different than shown because they are releasing new packaging.
Ingredients
The listed ingredients are the same for both of the Relax and Alert Montel by Select capsule products, which include: Hemp-derived CBD extract, Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT), Terpenes, Gelatin, Glycerin, and Water.
The products differ on the type of terpenes that are used to produce either the “Alert” or “Relax” benefits.
Select CBD nor Montel Williams reveal which specific terpenes are used in either formulation, but a press release from May 2018 about the partnership between the two gives some insight:
- “Alert: Formulated with terpenes known to: aid anxiety, depression; pain management; act as an anti-inflammatory and soothe stress; promote alertness and memory retention
- Relax: Formulated with terpenes known to enhance mood, promote relaxation and restful sleep, quell anxiety, depression and insomnia; act as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.”
Flavor & Scent
Montel by Select capsules do not have any smell, but they do have a slightly sweet taste.
Effectiveness
We reviewed the effects of the Montel by Select Alert capsules on energy and focus, while we reviewed the Relax capsules on relaxation and sleep.
Alert
The Montel by Select Alert capsules are designed for use in the morning, and its most noticeable benefit was on our energy levels.
Taking an Alert capsule helped us quickly get out of the morning fog and into a focused mindset.
If our energy began to wane during the afternoon, taking another Alert capsule gave us the stamina to power through the rest of the day, but we noticed that the benefits did not last as long.
Overall, our team’s productivity increased, and we were all in good moods during the time we used Alert.
It took about 30 minutes after taking the capsules for us to notice the effects, which lasted several hours and up to seven.
Relax
The Montel by Select Relax capsules are designed for use in the evening (probably about 30 minutes to an hour before bed), and the most prominent benefit was for relaxation.
Team members reported a significant calming sensation after taking Relax, providing a sense of well-being and relaxation.
This benefit was more noticeable after a particularly stressful day.
In turn, Relax improved our sleep quality.
We felt more ready for bed, fell asleep faster, and woke up feeling more refreshed after taking Relax as compared to not taking CBD.
Like the Alert capsules, Relax had about a 30-minute onset time, and the effects lasted quite a while, up to eight hours.
Comparing the two products, our team noticed more obvious benefits from Relax than Alert.
